We discuss unit development, lead generation, technology, operations and scalability. Yet one of the most powerful growth drivers in franchising is often overlooked: relationships. At Evive Brands, we recently launched National Networking Day, an initiative designed to bring franchise owners from across our family of brands together in local markets throughout the country. While the event itself is exciting, the bigger idea behind it is even more important. We believe meaningful connections between franchise owners can create opportunities that no technology platform, marketing campaign or operating system can replicate on its own. The inspiration for National Networking Day came from a simple realization. As Evive has grown into a platform of complementary franchise brands, many franchise owners operating in the same communities have never met one another. Yet they serve similar customers, face many of the same business challenges and often have opportunities to help each other grow. Before franchise owners can share referrals, collaborate on local marketing initiatives or explore business partnerships, they need something more fundamental: trust. And trust begins with relationships. Think about how referrals work in everyday life. We recommend restaurants we’ve visited. We suggest contractors we’ve worked with. We tell friends about businesses we know and trust. The same principle applies in franchising. Very few people are comfortable referring business to someone they have never met. That’s why relationship-building must come first. National Networking Day is designed to create those initial connections. Franchise owners will gather in local networking pods throughout the country to meet neighboring business owners from across the Evive platform. Through structured networking exercises, guided discussions and facilitated conversations, they will learn more about each other’s businesses, customers and growth goals. To help make those interactions meaningful, Evive partnered with Business Networking International (BNI), one of the world’s leading business networking organizations. “Business growth is rarely the result of one big opportunity; it’s the result of hundreds of meaningful relationships built over time,” said Tony Mohorn, director of partnership with BNI. “For franchise owners and small business owners, strategic networking creates a steady pipeline of trusted referrals, stronger partnerships and long-term business growth. The businesses that invest in relationships today are the ones that create sustainable success tomorrow.” My connection to BNI goes back long before franchising. Early in my entrepreneurial journey, BNI taught me how to talk about my business, how to build strategic relationships and how to generate referrals through trust rather than transactions. Those lessons helped me grow my business, and they continue to influence how I think about growth today. One of the most valuable skills franchise owners can develop is learning how to ask for and provide quality referrals. Many business owners make the mistake of being too broad. Saying, “If you know anyone who needs my services, send them my way,” rarely produces results. Successful referral partners are specific. A gutter company may be looking for introductions to property managers who oversee multiple facilities. A home care provider may need connections within a specific senior living community. A cleaning company may want access to a particular neighborhood or homeowner association. The more specific the request is, the easier it becomes for a referral partner to identify opportunities. That level of intentionality transforms networking from a social activity into a growth strategy. The benefits extend far beyond referrals. When franchise owners build relationships, they exchange ideas, solve problems together and share market insights. They become resources for one another. In many cases, they discover opportunities to collaborate on community events, home shows and local marketing initiatives that would be difficult to execute independently. For emerging franchisors, this type of connection becomes even more important as systems scale. Growth can sometimes create distance between franchise owners. As organizations expand, maintaining a strong sense of community requires deliberate effort. Culture doesn’t happen by accident. It must be cultivated through experiences that bring people together and reinforce shared values. That’s especially true within a multi-brand platform. At Evive, our long-term vision is to create stronger collaboration among complementary brands serving homeowners and families. But collaboration cannot be mandated from a corporate office. It must develop organically through relationships built at the local level. National Networking Day represents an important first step in that journey. Success won’t be measured by attendance numbers alone. Success will be franchise owners continuing conversations long after the event ends. It will be local groups deciding to meet regularly throughout the year. It will be stories of owners helping one another solve challenges, share opportunities and grow their businesses. Most importantly, it will be franchise owners recognizing that they are part of something larger than their individual business. As franchising continues to evolve, I believe the organizations that create the strongest connections between their owners will build the strongest systems. Relationships drive trust. Trust drives collaboration. Collaboration drives growth. And growth built on genuine relationships tends to last.
