Tyrone Thomas Jr. is the owner of PuroClean of Clairemont and PuroClean of Bonita

Tyrone Thomas Jr. is a San Diego native and restoration industry professional who has rapidly advanced in his career with PuroClean. Having previously served as a field technician, a project manager, a supervisor, and a production manager, he added the title of PuroClean franchise owner to his long list of roles when he joined the network in 2021. Since the opening of his PuroClean franchise in Clairemont, Tyrone has successfully scaled his PuroClean franchise to a multi-unit business.

Industry Beginnings

With nine years of experience in the restoration industry, Tyrone always knew his goal was to launch a business that gave him the space and the opportunity to make an impact in his community. After graduating from San Diego Mesa College in 2001, he began working in environmental safety in medical spaces, facilitating construction areas in high-risk settings, such as hospitals and clinics. From there, he expanded his scope in the field, working reconstruction jobs for commercial and residential clients, as well as taking on water mitigation, mold remediation, fire and smoke restoration, biohazard removal, and more.

Tyrone began performing the work, and with time he climbed the ladder, honing his restoration skills and becoming a well-rounded technician. He learned how to remove and reinstall drywall, remediate baseboards and cabinets, countertops, flooring and everything in between. Eventually, he began taking on damage assessments and learned the claims side of the business, tackling jobs of all sizes from every spectrum: water, fire, residential, commercial, storm relief, and anything else that came his way.

“I have been doing this work for so long that I’m confident in my abilities and I knew the business enough to make the jump and open my own location,” said Thomas.

Entrepreneurial Journey

Joining PuroClean in 2021, Tyrone decided to open his own franchise in the heart of his hometown, Clairemont, California. He attended the PuroClean new franchise owner training in January, coming into the business with a decade’s worth of experience in the restoration and remediation industry. Fresh from his training, Tyrone hopped on a plane from Florida to Texas to provide emergency restoration relief alongside other members of the PuroClean franchise network to communities in Texas devastated by winter storm Uri. By working on the ground with Texas-based franchise owners, Tyrone was introduced to the collaborative nature of the PuroClean franchise network. In his own service area, he has developed friendships with owners both in the network and his area who work together to build each other up and offer a helping hand when needed.

He has also built a great support system with his team at PuroClean of Clairemont, specifically with the company of his brother, Sean Thomas – supervisor and partner, as well as Tyrone’s fiancee Marife Jarillo, who serves as office manager for his business. With the help of his family and his wonderful team of technicians, Tyrone’s franchise has grown significantly in his first year in business, and he’s been able to scale up and purchase PuroClean of Bonita, becoming one of many successful multi-unit owners in the network. With the recession-resistant PuroClean business model and the connections enabled by being a part of a larger brand, Tyrone has developed key ties with insurance partners and customers alike, making a name for himself in his Southern California business community.

Looking Ahead

With plans to open a third location by 2023, Tyrone and his team show no signs of slowing down. By remaining committed to servant leadership and relentless customer service, Tyrone is a true testament of the success an entrepreneur can find by joining the “Paramedics of Property Damage®.” Tyrone and his enduring passion for helping others in their times of need has allowed him to build a business of giving back.
