The role of Franchise Administration is to protect the integrity of the brand system through the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD), Franchise Agreements and the activities and programs directly related to non-technical support and services for the brands. 

Areas of mentorship under Franchise Administration may be: 

  1.  Understanding the FDD in relation to Franchise Sales 
  2.  Franchisee compliance with provisions of Franchise agreements and the FDD 
  3.  Avoiding litigation due to inconsistent application of the FDD provisions 
  4.  Updating and filing disclosure documents for all states, provinces and countries where franchises are offered 
  5.  Preparing and issuing franchise agreements for franchise candidates according to policy, including maps, addendums, exhibits and attachments 
  6.  Monitoring and implementing compliance activities including but not limited to audits, transfers, addendums, defaults, insurance and purchase/sale agreements 
  7.  Understanding Item 19 – financial performance reports 
  8.  Provide assistance and manage franchise resale programs

Melanie Bergeron became president in June 1994 and added the responsibilities of chief operating officer in January 2004. She was promoted to chief executive officer Jan. 1, 2007, and in February 2009 became chair. She has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1996. From 1991 to 2000, Bergeron also operated the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®/South Oakland franchise with her husband, Noel. She is currently chair of the board.

Joe’s forty year business career includes more than three decades in franchising as well as broadcasting and sport marketing.

Joe was a radio station owner, early multi-unit franchisee in the Valpak System and at Fastsigns International in the 1980’s before joining the Valpak home office as a senior executive in 1991. He served as President of Valpak from 1996 until his retirement in 2010.

Since then, Joe has started new company with broadcasting and marketing interests in professional baseball as well as college football and basketball.

Joe serves on the IFA Board of Directors and is active on several IFA committees. He speaks and writes regularly on franchising.

As Great Clips President, Charlie ensures strong systems and processes are in place to support franchisee needs across the company. Charlie’s focus is to ensure collaboration and focus across the leadership teams, and to develop future leaders.  Prior to becoming President, Charlie served as Great Clips COO for 5 years and SVP of Franchise Development from 1999 until 2004  

Before joining Great Clips in 1999, Charlie gained more than 25 years of experience performing various executive roles both domestically and internationally in franchise operations and franchise sales with The Southland Corporation, franchisor of 7-Eleven convenience stores. His unique perspective on franchising was not only developed on the corporate side, but from the franchisee perspective as well. He and his wife have owned and operated two separate franchise businesses, including Great Clips salons in Dallas, Tx.

Brian Miller is a seasoned COO, Franchise Executive and Business Consultant. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer and a shareholder of Patrice & Associates Franchising, Inc. a nationwide Recruiting Firm specializing in the Hospitality and Restaurant Sector. 

Brian is also the principal to his own firm which provides consulting services to some of the nation’s top franchise brands. Brian is a trusted advisor to many executives and management teams of both emerging and seasoned franchise brands.

Brian spent 10 years with Franchise Source Brands Int’l, a multi-brand, international franchisor. For five years, Brian served as their Chief Operating Officer helping to lead a team of franchise development, franchise operations, sales and marketing professionals. Brian brings an extensive background in franchise development and operations, strategic planning, sales and management to his clients.

Brian spent more than 15 years on the Senior Management team of Snelling Staffing, one of the nation’s premier full service franchise staffing firms. As a Sr. Executive with Snelling, Brian had full P&L responsibility for 150 million dollars in annual revenue. During his tenure with Snelling, Brian led a variety of initiatives’ including a leadership role for both franchise and company-owned operations, training, and national accounts.
