20 Years of The Human Bean’s Coffee for a Cure Tops $4.7 Million for Breast Cancer Support
Medford, OR – The Human Bean announced today that its 20th annual Coffee for a Cure event held in mid-October raised $575,640.87 to support organizations that provide mammograms, post-diagnosis care, and breast cancer education. Since launching Coffee for a Cure in 2005, the coffee company has raised more than $4.7 million through the program.
On a very special day each October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Human Bean donates all food and beverage proceeds to help in the fight against breast cancer.
“Our customers and franchise partners are the heart of Coffee for a Cure,” says Rhonda Hawkins, co-founder of The Human Bean. “For 20 years, they’ve shown that this event doesn’t just raise funds. It opens up conversations that save lives.”
For Medford, Oregon resident Cindy Jarrell, a two-time breast cancer survivor, Coffee for a Cure holds special meaning. In 2023, the event created a chance encounter that led to early detection of her second cancer diagnosis. While ordering her coffee at The Human Bean, Jarrell spoke with volunteers from the local breast center about her difficulty securing a mammogram appointment before her insurance expired. The team worked to get her an expedited appointment — catching an aggressive cancer before it became a tumor.
“Coffee for a Cure is what started it. It wouldn’t have happened without that,” Jarrell said, referring to catching her cancer early enough to avoid chemotherapy and radiation.
Jarrell’s story is a powerful reminder of Coffee for a Cure’s impact. When customers show up, share posts, or simply talk about breast health with the person in line behind them, they’re doing more than supporting a fundraiser— they’re spreading awareness that leads to early detection.
This year’s event brought together all of The Human Bean locations, volunteers from local healthcare organizations, and thousands of customers who showed up to support the cause. The funds raised through Coffee for a Cure will support crucial services including screening mammograms, diagnostic testing, treatment, and patient education programs at breast cancer foundations throughout the U.S.
