The company’s portfolio includes Orangetheory Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Waxing the City, The Bar Method, Healthy Contributions and Provision Security; together, the brands generate a combined $4.1 in revenue, operate more than 7,500 locations across 46 countries and territories on all seven continents, and serve nearly 6.4 million members. ​

In 2002, Dave revolutionized the fitness industry when he and Chuck Runyon co-founded Anytime Fitness. Today, with over 6,000 franchise locations on all seven continents—more than half located outside the U.S. in over 40 countries—Anytime Fitness is recognized as the #1 fitness franchise brand in the world and named #1 gym by USA Today readers in 2026. In acknowledgment of their achievements, Chuck and Dave were awarded the 2020 “Entrepreneurs of the Year” by the International Franchise Association (IFA). Both credit their success to building high-performing teams with values centered around People, Purpose, Profits, and Play. Together, they co-authored the books Love Work: Inspire a high-performing work culture at the center of People, Purpose, Profits and Play®, and their newest book, Fanchise Your Franchise.

Dave’s heartfelt practice of emotional intelligence has earned him a reputation as a thoughtful and generous leader among his colleagues and throughout the entire fitness and franchise industry. A former Entrepreneur of the Year award winner from Ernst & Young, Mortensen currently serves on the IFA Board of Directors and was named to the Health & Fitness Hall of Fame with Runyon in 2026. He is a board member of the HeartFirst Charitable Foundation, an organization that serves deserving not-for-profit organizations. Dave’s greatest joy comes from sharing life with his amazing wife and their seven children.
