Help A Hero Campaign Enters Its Ninth Year Ahead of Veterans Day

Sport Clips has a long history of supporting veterans. In the early days of the salon’s history, Founder and CEO Gordon Logan established the importance of supporting veterans and made it a part of his business’s mission. As a veteran himself, Logan has demonstrated a commitment to helping veterans and has encouraged their matriculation from military service to franchising as a premier way of transferring rigorous leadership training and process management into concrete entrepreneurship. In fact, many Sport Clips franchise owners are former military. When asked why veterans make such great franchisees, Logan explained, “Veterans have leadership skills, understand team building and working within a system, and executing systems. The dedication, perseverance, and commitment they have is something that every entrepreneur really needs.”

As the CEO of a business with over 1,900 locations, Gordon Logan has built support for veterans into the DNA of his business. Since 2013, Sport Clips has partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) for the annual “Sports Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” campaign. The “Help A Hero” program provides scholarships for higher education and trade schools for veterans to help aid their transition to a new profession and civilian life. Donations are collected at every Sport Clips location from now through Veterans Day on November 11. The Help A Hero program has awarded a remarkable 2,400 scholarships totaling $11.4 million donated by Sport Clips clients and product partners and gives veterans an opportunity to pursue education beyond what is traditionally offered in with the G.I. Bill. This number puts it among the top scholarship programs available for military veterans in the U.S.

 “Research shows most Americans understand there’s a need for additional money to help veterans with education and training. Because G.I. Bill funds don’t always go the distance, we started the Help A Hero Scholarship program with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 2013 to help out when veterans need to go back to school in order to pursue civilian careers,” Logan said on the success and importance of the campaign.

Gordan Logan has also been actively involved with VetFran, IFA’s program to connect veterans to franchising, since its inception. Logan has been recognized by IFA and the U.S Chamber of Commerce for his lifelong commitment and service to veterans. In 2019, Logan was named the “Philanthropist of the Year” by the Chamber while also being recognized as a business leader for one the top companies that support veterans. In 2022, IFA awarded Gordon the William Rosenberg Foundation Leadership award for his contributions to veterans and advancing the mission of VetFran.

Through the Help A Hero program and their numerous other endeavors, Gordon and Sport Clips go above and beyond to ensure veterans can achieve the opportunity that awaits after their military service.  

The Help A Hero campaign culminates on Veterans Day when participating locations will donate $2 from every haircut to the program and provide free haircuts for veterans and current military service members.
