IFA DISAPPOINTED AFTER CONGRESS FAILS TO PROTECT SMALL BUSINESS IN OMNIBUS


WASHINGTON, Dec. 15—International Franchise Association President & CEO Robert Cresanti expressed deep disappointment that a policy rider to address the joint employer issue was removed from the Consolidated Omnibus Appropriations bill despite bipartisan support among House and Senate lawmakers. The provision would have granted a temporary delay in implementing the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) decision to expand the so-called “joint employer” standard, negatively impact small franchised businesses, their employees and the economy.


“Trial lawyers deliver a collective cheer, as Congress has served up another lump of coal to all small business owners in every congressional district, fully ignoring the tens of thousands of their requests to include this language in the omnibus. Lawmakers will assuredly be hearing about their failure to undo this corrosive and damaging NLRB decision. 


“We appreciate the support of hundreds of lawmakers in both parties for protecting local businesses from the NLRB’s overreach and are hopeful when Congress returns next year, they will be awakened to the impact this decision is causing for families in communities across America and be motivated to act.”
