IFA ISSUES STATEMENT ON PROPOSED “AMBUSH ELECTIONS” RULE


WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2014 —The International Franchise Association President & CEO Steve Caldeira issued the following statement after the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) released a proposed rule that would change the guidelines governing union representation elections.


“The recent controversial move by the NLRB to issue changes to shorten the union election time frame is yet another example of actions that dramatically tip the scales in favor of unions at the expense of franchise small business owners. There continues to be no reason to severely limit a worker’s ability to make an informed decision about union representation, when union bosses are already winning 65 percent of elections.


“The harmful new rule would greatly impair the business community and the IFA will continue to fight back against these rules to ensure franchise businesses can focus their energy on creating jobs.”


IFA serves on the management committee of the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace, a coalition of over 600 employers, associations and other organizations operating in every Congressional District, with the goal of holding the NLRB accountable and will be reviewing the proposed rule before taking further action.
