IFA Boosts Communications And Marketing Efforts, Names Vice Presidents to New Posts

The International Franchise Association recently named Alisa Harrison as vice president of communications and marketing, a new position designed to enhance the organization’s external media outreach and education efforts.  Additionally, IFA named Terry Hill vice president of publishing, who will be responsible for all publications produced by the association. “These appointments will help IFA better meet the needs of our members and the franchising sector, both of which have experienced significant growth during the past decade,” said Matthew Shay, IFA president and CEO.  “By increasing our efforts in communication, marketing and publishing, we can help ensure that policymakers, the media and members understand the consequences of ill-advised laws that prevent small businesses from thriving and increasing jobs, output and payroll for the U.S. economy.”  


Harrison joined IFA on April 1.  Most recently, Harrison served as vice president of APCO Worldwide, a global strategic communications firm, where she helped organizations implement media and public affairs programs involving food and agriculture, homeland security, nutrition and wellness and a variety of business-related issues, including franchising.   


Before joining APCO, Harrison served as the director of communications and press secretary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  While at the department, she served as the primary spokeswoman, provided communication counsel to the Secretary of Agriculture and managed a 100-person communications department.  Harrison has extensive association experience having worked for 15 years at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in various positions, including executive director of public relations.  She holds a bachelor’s degree of science in communications and journalism from the Univ. of Tennessee.  


Hill previously served as vice president of communications and media relations for the IFA.  Prior to joining IFA in 1995, Hill was director of public relations for the National Federation of Independent Business.  His experience includes serving as press secretary and campaign manager for two members of Congress, and working as a television and newspaper reporter.
