(WASHINGTON, May 14) – The International Franchise Association (IFA) released the following statement today supporting the re-introduction of the Save Local Business Act in the U.S. House and Senate:

“The Save Local Business Act provides a commonsense and thoughtful solution to the issue of joint employer,” said Michael Layman, IFA VP for Federal Government Relations. “This bill cements clarity for franchise brands and owners, establishing a reasonable, consistent, and clear standard of who can be considered a joint employer.

 “Franchise small businesses have endured a long pandemic. As the country emerges from the COVID-19 health crisis, these locally owned businesses are now facing unfair regulation that will only impede the economic recovery. The Save Local Business Act will provide the legal clarity that will allow the more than 700,000 franchise small businesses to continue to create jobs, serve their communities and lead the recovery. The IFA and our members are grateful to Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Rep. James Comer (R-KY-1) for working to help save local businesses across America.”

Sixty-six other organizations also joined IFA in a letter to Congress commending Sen. Marshall and Rep Comer for their efforts. The bill’s introduction comes as Congress debates the PRO Act, which the letter’s signatories noted would harm small business owners and entrepreneurs. You can read the entire letter here. 

An earlier version of the Save Local Business Act (H.R. 3441) previously passed the House with bipartisan support, 242-181.
