IFA Praises Regulatory Reform Bill to Ease Burden on America’s Franchise Owners

WASHINGTON, May 17—The International Franchise Association, representing more than 733,000 franchise businesses across the country, supported a package of regulatory reform bills ahead of committee markup today. S. 584, introduced by Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), would require agencies to consider all costs and the cumulative burden of regulations as well as hold real and meaningful consultations with small business owners before issuing a new regulation.

“With alarming frequency, rules and regulations are being made by bureaucrats that are disconnected from the reality of running a business,” said IFA President & CEO Robert Cresanti, CFE. “As a result, we are seeing ill-advised policy such as the National Labor Relations Board’s ‘joint employer’ standard and the Department of Labor’s overtime rule, which are shutting the door on opportunity and small business entrepreneurship.”

“We are thankful to Sen. Lankford for working to ease the regulatory burden on business owners by removing the barriers the regulatory environment has created,” stated Cresanti.
