Franchise Education & Research Foundation Announces Communications Scholarship in Honor of Former IFA CEO Steve Caldeira

WASHINGTON, May 26, 2016—The Franchise Education & Research Foundation today announced the Stephen J. Caldeira scholarship as part of the NextGen/Students in Franchising program. The first scholarship will be awarded in January 2017 at the 57th International Franchise Association Annual Convention in Las Vegas to a college student with a major or concentration in communications, marketing and/or public affairs.  Steve Caldeira served as the IFA President & CEO from 2010 to 2015.

“Steve was a passionate communicator and helped take IFA’s pro-franchising and pro-business message to the next level with policymakers and the media at a time when the industry was facing significant challenges from all levels of government,” said IFA Immediate Past Chair and Chair of the Board for Two Men And A Truck International Melanie Bergeron, CFE. “This scholarship will not only honor Steve’s achievements on behalf of franchising, but help the next generation of communicators in franchising achieve their dreams as franchisors or franchisees.”

“Steve was a smart, aggressive, strategic and thoughtful leader of IFA for the past five years, helping catapult IFA and franchisees and franchisors across America to the front lines as they defended their businesses from government regulations,” said Steve Joyce, IFA past chairman and president & CEO of Choice Hotels International. “I’m thrilled to announce this new scholarship in his honor and look forward to working with my colleagues to identify the next generation of franchising leaders worthy of this scholarship.”

The scholarship is supported by a generous donation from Steve Joyce to the NextGen/Students in Franchising program of the foundation.

Foundation scholarship recipients will receive a $1,500 travel stipend to attend the IFA Annual Convention, a complimentary convention registration and a $2,500 tuition scholarship. Scholarship recipients will participate in the NextGen/Students in Franchising program at the Annual Convention in January and will be recognized on the stage along with other scholarship recipients.
