WASHINGTON, April 19 – The International Franchise Association, the world’s largest organization representing franchise owners applauds Representative Bradley Byrne (AL-1) for introducing a resolution under the Congressional Review Act to prevent the U.S. Department of Labor’s recent ‘persuader rule’ from upending long-standing labor policy. The ‘persuader rule’ would make it more difficult for franchise small business owners to seek much-needed legal counsel on labor law matters, undermine attorney-client confidentiality, and reduce the ability of employees to make informed decisions in union elections.

This rule comes in the wake of numerous other drastic regulatory changes from the DOL that add further barriers and heavy costs to small business ownership.

IFA’s President and CEO Robert Cresanti said: “We are pleased with Representative Byrne’s proactive resolution to stop the ‘persuader rule’ from chipping away at small business owners’ ability to seek knowledgeable counsel on labor law issues.” Cresanti continued, “The ‘persuader rule’ would reduce protected free speech and association rights, and add even more regulatory red tape to small business ownership, thereby driving down entrepreneurial opportunities.”
