WASHINGTON, Oct. 29, 2015 – International Franchise Association President & CEO Robert Cresanti offered congratulations today to the new Speaker of the House Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.). Cresanti encouraged the Speaker to prioritize passage of the Protecting Local Business Opportunity Act, H.R. 3459, which was passed out of committee by the House Education and Workforce Committee this week.

“IFA offers sincere congratulations to Speaker Ryan on his election today and look forward to working with him on legislation that would encourage small business growth.

In his remarks to the House, Speaker Ryan said he wanted to get things done for the American people and get the House working again. We know that we can count of Speaker Ryan to bring certainty to more than 780,000 franchise establishments across the country, by passing the Protecting Local Business Opportunity Act, legislation that would repeal the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) harmful joint-employer ruling. We look forward to working with Speaker Ryan on this important legislation and other measures that will help grow the economy, create jobs and career ownership opportunities for hard working Americans.”

The bipartisan Protecting Local Business Owners Act would reverse the NLRB’s Browning-Ferris decision and restore the traditional joint employer definition that has guided franchise relationships for decades. For more information on this legislation, click here.

IFA awarded Speaker Ryan with its Legislator of the Year Award in 2010 for his efforts to bring certainty to the tax code among other accomplishments.
