IFA Applauds Final Passage of Federal Government Spending Package
WASHINGTON, Dec. 15, 2014—International Franchise Association President & CEO Steve Caldeira, CFE, released the statement below following the final passage of the federal government’s $1.1 trillion spending package:
“We applaud Congress for passing legislation that will keep the federal government operating, in most instances through the rest of fiscal year 2015. The measure clears the way for the 114 thCongress to concentrate on getting the economy growing more robustly and creating jobs. To help achieve this, we look forward to working with lawmakers to reverse the regulatory overreach of the National Labor Relations Board, including the possibility of declaring franchisors and franchisees as ‘joint employers,’ and to remove the provision in Obamacare to shorten the work week to 30 hours from the traditional 40 hours, a provision that will harm small-business owners as well as their employees. In addition, comprehensive tax reform that benefits businesses large and small will go a long way in helping franchise businesses reduce their regulatory burden.
“With the passage of the spending package, the decks have been cleared for Congress to hopefully work more consistently in a bipartisan manner to make material progress in supporting independently-operated franchise businesses in 2015.”
