IFA APPLAUDS BILL TO REFORM THE NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS BOARD

WASHINGTON, Sept. 16, 2014—International Franchise Association President & CEO Steve Caldeira, CFE, released the below statement following the introduction of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Reform Act, which would “reform” the labor board and create a clear process for moving forward.

“We applaud Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) for introducing the NLRB Reform Acttoday. It is an important step to removing politics from the NLRB and establishing a fair process for the consideration of all complaints. The NLRB is currently highly politicized. The recent decision by the NLRB’s General Counsel to essentially green light a ‘joint employer’ mandate for franchisors and franchisees is just the latest example. Establishing a bipartisan, six member board will ensure that politics do not poison the work of the NLRB and that all workers will have their voices heard.

“Through advocacy and our grassroots and legislative efforts, IFA has been leading the charge against the recent NLRB ruling and the threat it poses to the franchise business model and economic growth. We look forward to working with the Congress to change the NLRB for the good of all hardworking Americans.”
