IFA STATEMENT ON ACA REPORTING FINAL RULES

WASHINGTON, March 7, 2014 —International Franchise Association President & CEO Steve Caldeira released the below statement following the release of final reporting rules by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for insurers and employers under the Affordable Care Act.

“We are disappointed in the IRS’s final rules regarding employer reporting which do not provide the necessary flexibility for our members and will continue to increase health care costs for franchise small businesses in America.

“Unfortunately, the rules completely disregard the challenges IFA raised on behalf of the franchise industry in the comment process and fail to simplify the reporting process in a meaningful way for small businesses. Rather than heeding the real-world concerns echoed in comments by IFA and the broader employer community, the administration continues to implement the law without any regard to the cost and complexity it places on the small business community.

“The IFA will continue its advocacy efforts for legislative and regulatory changes that would mitigate the most onerous and costly requirements of the healthcare law for America’s 825,000 franchise establishments so they can continue to grow and create much-needed jobs.”
