IFA RELEASES NEW GUIDE TO EDUCATE WORKERS HOW TO COMPLY WITH NEW HEALTHCARE LAW
WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 2013—The International Franchise Association today released a short, easy to read informational pamphlet to help employers educate their workers on their obligations and options with the Affordable Care Act ahead of the Oct. 1 deadline for employers to notify their employees about the healthcare marketplace. Recognizing the challenges franchise small business owner’s face in educating their employees about the law, IFA has identified key pieces of information that workers need to know and ways to convey this information.
The new guide, Take Care, available in English and Spanish, answers the most common questions franchise employees have about the Affordable Care Act. “It is designed to provide employers a turn-key way to educate their workers,” said IFA President & CEO Steve Caldeira. “While the pamphlet is not a substitute for the lawfully-required Fair Labor Standards Act notice, it is an easy and affordable way for employers to make their workers aware of their obligations and options as this complex new law begins to take effect.”
The pamphlet breaks down options for obtaining coverage and provides information on common questions, including affordability, staying on a parent’s plan and what happens if someone chooses not to purchase coverage. Each question and answer is followed by a link to more information at Healthcare.gov , along with a QR code for quick scanning.
The pamphlet is available to download for free at www.makingsenseofhealthcare.org , along with other compliance resources. IFA launched www.MakingSenseofHealthCare.org in February as an online resource to educate the franchising community about the law. The site contains tools and information for employers to determine which aspects of the employer mandate they are responsible for complying with, and testimonials from franchise industry leaders regarding how they are adjusting their businesses and workforce to comply with the law.
