WASHINGTON, Dec. 21-The International Franchise Association today announced its support for a lawsuit filed by the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce against the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB)

“ambush” election regulation

. IFA serves on the management committee of the CDW, and represents the 825,000 franchise establishments in America, which collectively support nearly 18 million jobs or 12 percent of the U.S. private sector workforce.
The new rule effectively shortens election time frames, limiting employees’ opportunity to hear from employers and make an informed choice and diminishes employers’ due process. The 15-page complaint seeks to enjoin the NLRB from enforcing the final rule.
“At a time when the franchise industry is forecasting an additional 168,000 new jobs to be created next year, big labor is working with their counterparts at the NLRB to pursue a regulatory agenda that would stifle job growth,” said IFA Senior Vice President for Government Relations & Public Policy Judith Thorman.
In filing the lawsuit, IFA supports the intent of CDW, the Chamber and many other business groups who are asking the court to restore balance to the NLRB by enjoining the Board from enforcing the rule.
