Orange County, Calif. has given its 2018 Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Shirin Behzadi, CEO of Home Franchise Concepts. She received the award in the Direct to Consumer category, and was the only woman to win in her region. Home Franchise Concepts is the franchisor of Budget Blinds, Tailored Living and Concrete Craft brands.
Oasis Senior Advisors has promoted Sharon Cupach to Vice President of Franchise Development. Cupach will focus on finding the new franchisees and providing tools to carry out the company’s mission of connecting families with senior living solutions.
Andrae Marrocco has joined McMillan’s Toronto office as a partner in the Business Law and the Franchise and Distribution Law groups. He previously worked for Dickinson Wright with particular expertise in cross-border franchise and distribution arrangements, franchise-related mergers and acquisitions, and general franchise and distribution commercial and regulatory matters.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s decision to allow the expansion of Association Health Plans (AHPs) will help support smaller and mid-sized businesses by allowing them to offer employees health care benefits on par with larger companies, wrote National Restaurant Association CEO Dawn Sweeney in a June 25 op-ed in the New York Post. To help the industry select the right plans for their businesses, NRA recently launched its Restaurant & Hospitality Association Benefit Trust, created in partnership with UnitedHealthcare. FirstLight Home Care has reached an agreement to open a new location in Boston, Mass. Husband and wife team Girish and Shalini Lahoty will operate the location. They became passionate about senior care after caring for their own elderly parents.
Office Evolution is partnering with local business executive and entrepreneur, Michael Wielgus, to open its first business center in Jacksonville, Fla. The agreement is the first of five planned for Jacksonville. Office Evolution is also teaming up with franchise owners Vicki and Bob Fox to open a location in Southlake, Texas, the first of two locations to be developed in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and ninth in the state.
