Cresanti's Corner: Season to Give Back

The holiday season is a natural time for people to consider ways to offer support to the community. We all reflect on the blessings of the year and look for ways to pay it forward. It’s also a time when I enjoy showcasing the efforts of the IFA Foundation’s Franchising Gives Back program, and the stories that come out of that wonderful initiative. I hear about this in countless ways, and in the spirit of the season of giving, want to share a few with you.

John Arenz owns and operates The Cleaning Authority locations in Hillsboro, Ore. and Vancouver Wash. Twice a year, employees participate in The Cleaning Authority CARES food drives, just in time for the holidays. In 2017, both of Arenz’s offices were the highest-collecting offices system-wide. The Vancouver office donated 14,866 pounds of food to the FISH Westside Food Pantry, which averages to 33 pounds per customer. The Hillsboro office donated 8,965 pounds of food to the Sunshine Pantry of Beaverton, which averages to 23 pounds per customer. With 6,238 pounds of food donated in Hillsboro and 2,790 donated in Vancouver so far this year, it's going to be amazing to see what comes from the 2018 holiday season.

• This month, Always Best Care Senior Services, in partnership with YouGiveGoods, a company that connects tangible giving to community needs through a free, easy-to-use online service, will host an online holiday food drive. As part of the initiative, participating franchise locations across the country will encourage their communities to go online and purchase a variety of goods for donation to benefit a local non-profit organization in their communities.

Carvel franchisee Georgette Davidheiser in Bethlehem, Pa. works with Pathway to Santa to benefit cancer patients at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Muhlenburg. Through December, gift cards are distributed to cancer patients receiving radiation treatments.

These are just a tiny fraction of the impact that franchise businesses will make on their communities this holiday season. The impact that franchising has on communities around the globe is large and will have continued ripple effects that touch life after life. I can’t think of a better reason to join the cause of giving!

The IFA Foundation’s Franchising Gives Back program was designed to share these inspired and impactful stories of our members who give back in such meaningful ways. Visit and for more information.
