New President….New Congress….New Conference Name

Thank you for joining us for IFA’s Public Affairs Conference, held September 12-14, at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC. This conference was the franchise industry’s most important advocacy event.

Formerly known as Franchise Appreciation Day, we re-branded the event as the Public Affairs Conference and with a new President and new Congress in office, it proved to be a critical time for lawmakers to know the contribution franchising makes to the nation’s economy, particularly in time of crisis. Members of Congress needed to know how franchising is being impacted by their decisions during meetings on Capitol Hill and your voices were heard!

George Will Pic Our keynote speaker was George F. Will America’s foremost political commentator and columnist. During lunch on Tuesday, he presented a penetrating and incisive commentary on the Washington political scene, offering a glimpse into what the future holds for public affairs, public policy and American Society. Most well-known for his popular syndicated column in The Washington Post, Mr. Will often writes for Newsweek and is a regular guest on ABC’s This Week. In 1997, Mr. Will won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in his newspaper columns and has published three books on political theory. Mr. Will has gained the respect of Americans for his lucid and witty commentary on issues of national importance – which he shared with you this September.

Over 400 franchisors, franchisees and suppliers participated this year to tell franchising’s story. Join us again next year to lobby Congress on the issues that matter in protecting the business climate for franchising.
