BRIGHTSTAR FOUNDER SHELLY SUN RECEIVES IFA FRANPAC MVP AWARD AT IFA'S PUBLIC AFFAIRS CONFERENCE
WASHINGTON, Sept. 16, 2014—The International Franchise Association today announced Shelly Sun, CFE, CEO and co-founder of BrightStar Care, as the IFA Sid Feltenstein FranPAC MVP Award winner for her leadership and dedication in supporting FranPAC, IFA’s political action committee.
“The growth of FranPAC is due to the commitment of IFA members, who are dedicated to strengthening the franchising industry by supporting pro-franchising, pro-business policymakers,” said IFA President & CEO Steve Caldeira, CFE. “Shelly Sun continues to bring tremendous awareness about the importance of FranPAC through her leadership experience and dedication to the industry. Her passion for franchising and business are a significant addition to the IFA, and she is truly deserving of this recognition.”
Sun received the award during IFA’s 15 thAnnual Public Affairs Conference where over 350 franchise business leaders are heading to Capitol Hill to advocate on behalf of the franchise industry and business model. The award is named after past IFA Chairman and winner of the IFA Hall of Fame Award Sid Feltenstein, who founded FranPAC in 1978 and helped to grow it into the one of the top 25 trade association political action committees.
The FranPAC MVP award recognizes an individual who has made extraordinary efforts to enhance IFA member involvement in its FranPAC program. The success of FranPAC increases IFA's ability to assist those who support the IFA’s agenda, such as protecting the business model, fighting the unjustified NLRB decision to designate franchisors and franchisees as joint-employers and making changes to the Affordable Care Act to help franchise owners make sensible workforce policy decisions.
Sun, joined the IFA Board of Directors in 2010, is a Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) and currently serves as IFA’s Secretary. She has chaired two special taskforces to review the IFA dues structure and governance policies. Sun has also represented the industry various times through testimony on Capitol Hill and interviews in the news media, including broadcast TV. She was selected as the IFA Entrepreneur of the Year in 2009.
